H.U.D.
No, that's not it. That's a video game reference. So, is the Hub.
Now that' I've nerded out, and am fully excited on for this Fallout 3, I just wanted to return to my purpose.
My 2 speed back pedal hub, surrounded by spokes, a rim, and a tire, is amazing. These things go for a bunch of money online, but I paid a fraction of that. Not that I'm telling you what fraction, which will lead to a judgment about my priorities. Suffice it to say that this new wheel is sitting on the goofiest cruiser in the world.
"In the Name of Science" is evolving yet again. So far the experiment has yielded increased aggression on my own part, on the part of vehicles and fellow cyclists. I've also encountered increased interested and friendliness from others. Sometimes I feel happier on this bike, other times I feel more defensive. It's a social experiment of sorts.
Am I that guy? Goofy-bike guy. Are people making instant snap-judgments of me? I assume they are, or that at least some of them are. Is it a good idea? Probably not. It's not practical at all, and being a pragmatist, this bike is really a symbol of everything I do not believe in. Yet, with the addition of this 2 speed wheel, a testament to amazing science, this bike has become a little more mysterious.
I have entered the sub-culture never to return.
I desire a many-spoked front wheel.
Deft-gears, not fixed-gears.
